Alternative to Venetian blinds

I'm in a first-floor apartment. It's got all Venetian blinds, which I hate and find very fiddly, however as it's a rented apartment I don't want to replace them. I usually end up leaving them scrolled up to the very top most of the time, but it's a very public open area so there are privacy issues there.

I'm not sure if what I'm looking for exists. What I'm looking for is a temporary screen which would ideally stick directly on to the glass, that would let in the light and allow a view outside, but protect my privacy inside.

Does this exist, if so where would I get it? What alternatives are there without replacing the blinds that are there?

    Thanks.

You can get frost film but you loose a % of light

Another idea is to frost film the bottom 50 % use your venitian blinds on the top 50 % or get something in Ikea ?

Are you looking for a type of cling on for the pane of glass in the window? There are frosted/patterned types you can affix with a spray of water, then remove with no damage to the windows.

Failing that, I dont have any other suggestions.

Edit: it's called static cling vinyl.

Thank you - I think this is what I'm looking for, at least I have a name for it now! :)

They don't really provide that much in the way of privacy - certainly less than venetian blinds. For what you're describing, having the venetian blind slats tilted slightly with the outside edge up is the best way - gets you the good sunlight and nobody from below can see anything.

Keep in mind that you can't install new blinds (ie. can't go drilling into things) without the landlords permission.

And there's always the classic sheer net curtains: they could easily be hung over the Venetians:
You can see out, neighbours can't see in!

Nets hung over the lower half of window only, lets most daylight in while still private, but for that you'd have to drill a tiny hole into each side of windowframe.

I disagree, been using frosted in several places over the years ... I don’t know what type you used.

Tinted / frosted film CAN give you 100% privacy if it goes edge to edge. Depends on the film, but you loose a % of light.

Phone Myra glass or any glazer for more info

    Or

    Paint the window black :-)

Well...I can't say that I've seen them all, so fair enough. Any I've seen have been pretty see-through in day/open and haven't really given privacy unless in night/closed. No better than appropriately angled venetians in terms of privacy or light IMO.

Either way, I doubt the landlord would be ok with them being fitted.

Could you get a suspension rod (no need for drilling) and hang some sort of voile in the window. It's not the prettiest of solutions but it'd give you more privacy.
