Is it def the car battery going or could it be something else?

This might be a stupid question but I need to know

I went into the shop the other day and left the lights and radio on by mistske

I was literally. In the shop 5 minutes

Came out and car wouldn't start, tick over

Got the cables out and hooked up with another car and got it started

Since then it starting much slower after 3 or 4 ticks

Is it def the battery or could it be something else?

Car is 2009 mk2 diesel ford focus and I bought it 2 years ago and I think it's the original battery

I'll Replace it but just want to know could it be something else I can check before I do

I've use it very day and it's running for about an hour or 1.5 a day

I've done runs since for about 45 mins straight so it should be ok

It hasnt not started on me since but it seems like one day I will come out and it won't start

The cold weather will kill an already weak battery which may explain it not charging sufficiently. Drop into your local motor factors and they will check your battery for you with their tester.

I would say replace the battery anyway - you don’t want to be stranded for the sake of swapping a battery.

Leaving lights on run s the battery low, a low or weak/old battery will suffer major kick in the teeth in cold weather(like we had). It will then perform poorly. Get batt. tested and probably changed. Other than that maybe loose /corroded terminal connections but unlikely.

Id say the best advice you got there was to replace the battery. In the process get the charging checked as well to be sure.

Once flattened to the point of not being able to start a car a battery needs to be recharged with a charger until it reaches a state of full charge.
Running the car will put a small level of charge into the battery but it won't charge it up to 100%

Running batteries at a low state of charge will damage them over time.
