Concrete v tarmac

We got a quote for 40 metres concrete at the back of house. Obviously its a big area but we quote is about €2000 more than we have budgeted for.
A friend was in a similar predicament and he just decided to tarmac all around the house. Similiar sized area and it would be more affordable.
Has anyone any advice? There would be no heavy machinery driving on it but how well will it wear?
Husband powerwashed the footpaths last week and they came up brand new. Obviously this is not possible with tarmac (or is it??)
    Any advice appreciated?

    40msq or 40 cubed????

40sqm is small / 40 cubed is BIG;)

40 m concrete ,mix 35 Newton 20mm chip. About 3000 for concrete etc and 4500 labour

Others will correct me, but from the prices for Tarmac I have seen - I don't think they would work out cheaper.

40m3 would be somewhere between 250-400 m2 if using 4-6 inch depth.

Is the concrete dyed or printed/textured? Also - worth asking how smooth the finish will be.

Concrete for anything other than a commercial yard looks crap... Dusty when dry , holds the water when wet, I'd prefer paving, even concrete slabs to straight concrete...

No not dyed or printed. Just ordinary concrete. That's all i want. The finish will be to match in with existing footpaths and they are smooth enough.
Haven't really considered paving. Big space so i just want smooth area for children to ride bikes etc

Permeable (porous) concrete is also worth checking out (Google and You Tube). It drains directly to ground, and if you use the right aggregate and coloured cement it can look really well. If you really wanted to you could get it to look like tarmac!

I don't know how suitable it is for a sloping driveway though.
