Crew cab, tax and NCT/ CVT

I have a Renault Trafic crew-cab on order, which I can either tax commercially for €333 , ( having filled in the declaration that of course it won’t be used for carrying passengers outside of work ...) ,
or privately , for €544 , based on its 1.6 ltr engine size .
I can’t seem to find an answer as to whether if taxed privately , it qualifies for NCT. ( no test for 4 years then every 2 years till 10 ) or if it would still need CVT testing ( every year from 1 year old , more expensive test . )
Anybody put a crewcab through NCT ?

Been there, done that and got the T-shirt. It is CVRT I am afraid, even though taxed privately it is still a "commercial" vehicle. Same at the tolls.

Aren’t they emissions based now? Something changed last year on them anyway.

I last taxed mine in August and it was cc based. There was I think a change in "business" tax last year, and some 4x4's previously qualified under this are now no longer covered and are emission based,. Maybe that is the change you are thinking of?

No, any N1 vehicles not taxed at the goods rate are taxed on CC.
The post 2008 emissions rate taxation is only for private cars (ie m class)

Crew Cab vehicles used to fall under the N1 classification, which was done away with last year (30th July). Unless there are seperate areas for load and passengers then as far as I'm aware, they no longer qualify as commercial vehicles.

I haven't quoted on anything like a Trafic Crew Cab since the legislation changed last year so not 100%, but I would be surprised if such a vehicle can still be taxed as a commercial vehicle - it's now a car and taxed based on the Co2 emissions.

If I was the OP, I'd be getting it doubly confirmed that it does qualify as a commercial vehicle so the full VAT can be reclaimed on the purchase (presuming bought by a business).

If its designated as a commercial vehicle it needs an annual CVRT regardless of the taxation class. If it's designated as a category M passenger vehicle it is taxed on emissions and requires an NCT after 4 years.

I was under the impression that if the vehicle was sold as new as a commercial classification VRT paid as goods rate and eligible to be taxed as commercial, that it did not qualify for emissions taxation in the event of private use and was instead taxed on CC.

Maybe the change for crewcabs changed something specifically for them as they are classified differentlY

That is the case, so a Pick-up can be taxed either commercially at €333, or based on the engine size for private tax

Except for vehicles where the passenger area and load area are seperate structures, there's no longer a commercial classifcation for Crew Cabs as far as I'm aware.
