Very sad, a principled and compassionate man. RIP

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Likewise, a bolt for the blue, a blot on the world of singing has passed :(

Would have little in common politically but I liked him as a man on the radio, I did wonder about his absence from "I'm Sorry..." but assumed he was busy doing something more sensible.

Poor Divil. I loved his outlook and always looked forward to him on the news quiz. Was going to see him in Durham last year but his gig cancelled.

He wouldn't appreciate any religious sentiment so I'll just say goodbye Jeremy. Thanks for all your work. Top man.

So sad to hear this. Although this quote from him made me smile:

"I don't get this fashion for happy funerals. He said he wanted all his mates to be in a good mood and smile, and this is a very fashionable idea, that when you die, it's supposed to be a celebration and joyous and everyone laughing, but I want people's lives torn apart when I go. I want to be embalmed and brought out when we have guests."

Very sad news. I wondered why he hadn't made an appearance recently on R4. Hearing his name mentioned in a programme's intro was always welcome.
    I'll even miss his singing!

If you listen to "Last Word" today (on BBC Sounds, a treasure trove of excellent radio) there is an extract from a Jeremy Hardy monologue about "middle class children".
It's about sixty seconds of absolute comedy gold.

So sad to think that the News Quiz has lost another stalwart,I'm thinking as well of Simon Hoggart also taken before his time.
