Nissan Leaf - TPMS

This evening my TPMS warning light flashed for a minute and then remained on. I haven't seen this before and it only ever came on before when I got punctures and turned off again once punctures repaired. I did get 4 new tyres last week and wondering if this might have contributed to the problem?

Leafspy is reporting normal pressure for each tyre. I would have thought that Leafspy used the TPMS to gets its reading so how is the problem not being reported by Leafspy?

Looking at manual it says when tyres are changed a new grommet should be installed with TPMS valve but I've no idea what the tyre fitter did when fitting the tyres. The valves don't look new and he didn't replace the valve cover on one wheel so I used one I found at home instead. Could this have contributed to the problem?

What are my options here? Should I go to Nissan dealer to check out?

If the tyre lad has been careless he's damaged the sensor.. They're very saucy if broke.

    Could be damaged alright.

When you see the 4 pressures in LeafSpy are you sure they are all showing as active and not greyed out?

Are the 4 tyres showing the same pressure ±1psi?
    What pressure are they showing?

The tyre pressure for the passenger front tyre is greyed out this am. Now that I recollect the passenger rear figure was greyed out a couple of days ago but is fine today. They are all showing 40 psi +/- 1 at present as I put on winter tyres in case we got snow and I couldn't get up hill to the house.

When you say saucy what kind of sauce are we talking about? Also who could diagnose if the sensors are faulty? Also presumably I could just ignore the warning and leave as is?

If its greyed out its not communicating and hence possibly damaged during the tyre fitting.

Note: They remain greyed out until you are driving the car as they go into sleep mode when stationary. So, you need to look at LeafSpy while driving.

If it is still greyed out while driving I'd start with a call to the tyre fitter and see what response you get and just to log the issue with them.

Then get Nissan to confirm if it is broken, get a quote and back to the tyre fitter. If they did break it they need to pay for it. Not breaking the TPMS is expected of any tyre fitter. Its pretty standard to have in cars these days.

Put summer tyres back on after the long hard winter!!! As suspected the TPMS on the passenger front wheel disengaged from valve and was spinning around in wheel. Fitter handed it to me and said it must have happened when tyre was pumped up after fitting winter tyre .. said that happens sometimes. Disagreed he could have done anything to damage it. Now that monitor in no longer in the wheel I get a warning each time I switch on to say monitor on that wheel is not working. Surprising that it was still working even though it was being tossed around inside the wheel for over 10k kms.

I asked him if he replaced the valve stems when changing the tyres and he said with normal valves he always changes then but its not possible with TPMS valves as he doesn't stock them. Is this the norm?

He then said if I wanted to I could leave the wheel overnight and he would glue the monitor to the inside of the rim and it would be fine as it doesn't have to be attached to the valve. I'm not willing to leave the car there overnight at the moment but I was wondering where would I get a TPMS valve for the Leaf? I could then check if the monitor will attach to the valve and I can get it refitted the next time I'm in the tyre place.

    Only place is Nissan direct.
All these in wheel sensors are a nightmare. It used to be based on the wheel rotation so no silly sensors.

My leafspy shows N/A for tyre pressure. Are my sensors damaged?

I'm getting that reading from the wheel the sensor has been removed from. The remaining 3 wheels are reporting a pressure reading. Is the TPMS malfunction light displayed on the dash? Since I removed the sensor on starting the car I'm also getting a display where the SOC is displayed highlighting the wheel without the sensor which I have to exit from each time

    What about the dash warning?
    Is that working?

What model leaf do you have? XE or SV etc?

Were you driving when you checked LeafSpy?
FYI: When the car is not moving the sensors go to sleep and will report no values.

    I think this is normal.
When I swapped a wheel out to one without a sensor the yellow "puncture light" didnt display anymore. I think the ECU knows that the sensor isnt there so it doesnt turn on the yellow light then, but it will still show the icon that that wheel has no sensor.

I'm still getting the yellow 'puncture light' combined with the yellow warning triangle. The 'puncture light' come on and flashes for a minute then remains on each time I start up, the yellow triangle is on permanently and the display showing the 'faulty wheel' come on each time I start up and has to be exited from. A PITA to be honest. If not too expensive I'm going to try and resolve the problem as I hate looking at warning lights!!

I couldnt drive around with a yellow light on all the time either!

Where is the faulty sensor now? Is it still in the wheel or in the car somewhere or at home?

SV, and looking while driving, I'm aware that it takes some time to show the value. Still nothing.

Haven't had tyres changed, only one actually, when I had a puncture. I had TPMS icon showing when the puncture happened few months back, but not after that, but I've been checking the pressure regularly and it was just few PSI below normal pressure so that wouldn't have triggered the TPMS warning on the dash.

It might still be registering itself with the TPMS?
Try putting the sensor out of signal reach of the car and then see if the yellow light stays off.

It will probably still show the error that the sensor is missing on that wheel but at least you wont have a yellow light.

As I said, when I put on a spare tyre with no sensor I got no yellow light.

Has LeafSpy ever shown you tyre pressure values?
Maybe its disabled in LeafSpy in the service screen?

No and no. Needless to the say, I don't have leafspy pro, just the regular paid version.

Actually, I had only tyre ever changed after the point when I had tpms icon on the dash so if they damaged the sensor during the tyre change wouldn't be leafspy showing pressure of the other three tyres at least? It just shows N/A for all four of them. I did try tpms reset on the dash but no change.

    Folks, any ideas?

Anyone has a clue? No pressure on Leafspy. Tpms seems working otherwise.
