Replacing mixer tap cartridge

There's an issue with the cartridge in the bathroom sink and there's a steady trickle of water coming out of the tap. I took the cartridge out and tried to see if I could get a replacement in Chadwicks, but they told me I'm better of replacing the whole tap. Is this really so? And if this is the case, how easy would it be…

And if this is the case, how easy would it be to replace the tap?
