Just seeking bit of general advice. Not sure if I am in the correct forum , all I can see under CAO , enquiries , is under "Leaving Cert".

My son just completed leaving last ,sept. ok result.

He has an interest in Hotel Management /airline ...

he is in the middle of a tourism , travel , airline studies QQI5 at moment -PLC.

we applied on line and registered with CAO ,just last week.

I got email today saying he has to apply specifically for 3 courses by sat to CAO.

He wants to do go to DIT , Dublin. . He wants to attend a Travel and Tourism , management , type course. He has one in mind , we went to an open day there some time back , and the course suits him.

So, he will hopefully be using his QQI5 qualification , from the PLC to access this course. I believe that a certain amount of courses are held for PLC applicants.
I believe he has insufficient "points" from the Leaving , so career teacher , advised this route.

My question , is , how do I nominate 2 other courses in the same area of interest , in Dublin? Is he in a difficulty (disadvantage) using the QQI5 rather than having gained sufficient points in the Leaving Cert , and therefore be able to use the usual route to college that students use?

He got a waiver for English (spelling) due to a slight dyslexic disability that allowed for that , in the Leaving. Can this unfairness , be of any assistance to him , for the CAO application , and assist in trying to get the actual course he wants?

He is allowed to choose up to 20 courses on the CAO application. 10 Level 8 courses and 10 Level 6/7 courses.

All he has to do is list the courses in the order that he wants. What I do notice is that you've said 'How do I nominate two more courses for him?'

He is presumably around 18 at this stage. If he wants to go to college he should be researching the courses he is interested in and filling in the form himself. He is an adult. You are not doing him any favours filling in his CAO for him. If he wants to go, he should have enough interest to fill it in.

Courses that involve interviews have to be on the form before February 1st. He can change his mind on the order of his list as many times as he wants after that but if there are courses he is some way interested in that require an interview, he must enter them before Friday.

His PLC result does not affect his LC result in any way. There is an option on the CAO form that allows him to tick that he is doing PLC this year and also a space to put in a previous LC result other than 2019. So essentially he has two sets of results which can be used to apply for courses.

Dyslexia does not confer any advantage on him. I'd get out of the habit of describing it as an unfairness. He can get on with it and have to work a bit harder and do spell checks when he is doing college work/ career that involves writing and spelling, or he can describe it as an unfairness.
