Wrong size car tyre

Brought the car in for a general service during the week to the main dealer where I got the car from. Got a call from them during the day to inform me that one of the tyres I got fitted by another tyre fitting company (a chain) was the wrong size and that it will need replacing.

I got the new tyre approximately 3 months ago. The main dealer suggested going back to the fitting company to ask for a full refund so I plan to do that next week.

I don’t have any receipt for the tyre. 2 questions:

    1. Is it likely that the tyre fitting company will have a log of my fit from approx 3 months ago?
    2. If I get a bit of push back from them, and they refuse to refund, what’s my best approach to take from there.

    Cheers

Impossible to say whether they will have any details on system. See how it goes, what size is the wrong size, and what is the size on the opposite correct tyre? If they are not wildly off (which I presume they wouldn't be), then I would probably approach this from the angle of getting the other side replaced.

Generally speaking the idea is to have the same size tyre on the same axle. It would be relatively common to have different size wheels/tyres on the rear of a car.

It is also recommended to replace tyres in axle pairs, having one tyre gripping much more than the rest is a recipe for disaster.

I think a full refund is a bit of a stretch. Try and get the new tyre off them in the proper size and leave it at that.

Also make sure to check that it is the same make and model of tyre as the others and not some cheap ditch finder they give you

Do you have a receipt or proof of purchase for the tyre

Post says they do not have the receipt.

Proof of payment should suffice so if you paid by card then it should be recorded.

I would go with that on hand as proof.

Have the tyre changed to correct size should be sufficient.

How different is the size ?

Proof of payment would at least give date and amount charged.

    This

Most retailers will usually accommodate a bank or credit card statement if they can verify the transaction from it.

Most big chains ask for a reg for the receipt. They should be able to look it up that way.

Cheers for the replies. Yeah, as mentioned I don’t have the receipt so I will look at my bank statements. Width of tyre is incorrect, should be 225mm but a 245mm tyre on it.

The other front tyre is somewhat worn (it will probably need replacing in the next 6 months). So as suggested I may ask them to replace the incorrect tyre (for free) in addition to paying to get the other front tyre replaced.

    Thinknthat is a reasonable request.

You say you don't have a receipt but were you ever given one?
