    So I have a 3l 5 year old quattro A5 which I love. But it needs a major service now Audi says. £450 they want plus whatever. Halfords say £279 for major service. Anyone got any reason that they wouldn't go with the much cheaper option? Any real disadvantages?

    Bearing in mind due to the new London emissions laws I may have to sell it in a few months :(

    I'd be much happier giving Audi the £450 but yes its saucy, I presume it's fuel filter, air filter and pollen filter plus the oil service?

    The extra bits can be purchased from oem suppliers and are much cheaper plus simple to change.

    No point in going to Audi with a 5 year old car either, can you find a good Indy?

    Halfords in Ireland and Halfords in the UK are apparently two completely different beasts. The one in the UK is meant to be very good. I'm guessing from the OP that he is based in the UK with his use of the pound sign

    So major with Audi includes

    Oil filter replacement
    Engine oil replacement
    Air filter replacement
    Fuel filter replacement (diesel engines)

    Major with Halfords the above and has a big list of things included but they don't include a replacement fuel filter in price.

    And yes I'm in the UK at the moment

    For £450:eek::eek::eek:

    That's an absolute rip-off. Brand premium in action.

    Find yourself a good Audi indy and build a relationship with them.
