4 Pin bathroom bulb not working

    Hi,

Quick one for ye, the bulb went in the bathroom in our rented accommodation. Got a replacement one, and after going back again to woodies to swap a 2 pin for a 4 pin, the new one doesn't work. I've read online about starter (I think?) but have no clue, can that be done yourself?

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

Post a picture of the fitting, it'll help us to figure it out for you

This is a starter, very easy to replace yourself, it will be accessible when the cover of the fitting is off

Can you unscrew the 2 outer screws half a turn and drop the back plate down and post a picture of the circuitry on the back.
Probably best to turn the power off first at the board.

Will do after work, thanks aido (am clueless at this stuff and don't wanna go wrecking the landlord's head over a minor fix)

I don't think that fitting has a starter instead it either has an electronic ballast fitted normally internally but can be external.

4Pin 2D lamps need either a starter or an electronic ballast. The OP's attachment shows the hole where a starter would go but no sign of the base contacts for a starter therefore it probably has a high frequency electronic ballast. If a new lamp won't fix it then the easiest fix is to replace the fitting. The ballast is replaceable but its a bigger job than I guess the OP can handle and afaik an electrician would just replace the fitting. Do however try a couple of different new bulbs as I've had some duff new ones.

Op get onto your LL this is his responsibility to sort.

If it were just a bulb it would be up to you but this is a new electronic ballast needed so most likely the fitting will just be replaced.

Contact your LL and tell them you have replaced the bulb and explain the type of fitting and he will have to get it changed.

This is why you are paying rent so if anything goes it's not your expense.

That's why I wanted to see the circuitry. I assume it has an electronic ballast that has failed or burnt out.
Easiest solution as already stated is to get the landlord to replace it if that's the case.
