What next after instagram?

Let's be honest about it, Instagram will go the same way as myspace, a joke of a site where people pretend to live perfect lives while they cry themselves to sleep at night. When will someone come up with something decent to replace it?

You concern yourself with too many of the small issues. Life will go on regardless.

What do you need it for in the first place? I find it as baffling as Twitter. Just a constant rolling comment feed with little to no substance, except with pictures.

Instead of looking at ads all day you just give your bank details to your favorite influencers and they buy stuff for you.

Companies will pay the influencers to buy their products with your money.

Can’t think of a name though.

I don't know what will replace it, but I do know it will be equally ****.

You're following the wrong stuff if you think that is what twitter and instagram are about. Twitter is great for getting articles/news/updates etc you wouldn't otherwise have rolling access to or wouldn't be searching out.

I can go to a news website for that? Or find websites that are topical to my interests? I don't need to be on the crest of hype.

You can say the same about Boards.

Not really. Boards has expanded immensely from its origin, to what it is now. People get confused trying to slot it in with social media, while discussion boards in various formats are older than the www.

Ridiculous response, I'm not sure you understand the concept.
Hardly being on the 'crest of hype' if you are getting a great feed of articles that you would never get from 'going to a news website', there is no single website that can give me the feed of robotics, networking or telecoms related content that twitter can give me. Not everyone is celebrity obsessed and can just go read the Daily Mail website you know. influencers/celeb enthusiasts are a very small part of the market for twitter/instagram.

I don't think anything could top the narcissism of Instagram...

I find that a lot of the people that criticise Twitter actually don't know how to use it, especially the list function which I find great for following various topics.

What leads you to think that?

The primary purpose of Twitter is for pushing the popularity of 1 time posts. Get out of it whatever you want, however you want.

I never said anything about celebrity gossip. Why are you bringing up the daily mail?

https://www.theregister.co.uk - might be of interest to you. They do a mix of serious and comment pieces. The comment pieces can be heavily bias though.

https://news.ycombinator.com/news?p=2 - aggregates the kind of topics you seem interested in.

I use Instagram for sharing and viewing photos. There are great photographers on it.
The crud/influencers etc crop up but they can be ignored.

Skynet will have become self-aware and eliminated all 'influencers' before that hopefully.

Ah yes Instagram, where the same pages add me as a friend, I respond then they think I'll buy a t-shirt, then unfollow me, then follow me again ask me to buy a t-shirt...

Fell for it a few times followed them, but the third time I didn't bother.

    Never bought a t-shirt.

    Shame on me....

Don't get Instagram at all. Do you remember how boring it was in the old days when people brought out their damn photo albums or worse still set up their slide projector for a mind-numbing fest of their holiday pictures. Instagram looks like the digital version of that. Nah thanks.
