Garmin 410 v Garmin Vivo Active 3

I don't do that much running but when I do, I like to track it using my 410. I use it to pace myself and also monitor my HR via a premium HR strap. The other function I use is the ahead/behind feature. I don't like the stupid bezel feature for scrlling through the menus. It is awkward and clumsy. Would much rather buttons.

I don't have any other trackers. I wear a normal watch. I have an Edge 500 for the odd time I do cycle. I have an Approach G6 for golf.

I'm considering getting the Garmin Vivo Active 3, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it. It seems to do everything that each of my other devices already does. Although I would mainly be looking to replace the running watch. I would still use the Edge for cycling as I prefer to have it on the bars. I would probably ditch the Approach as I also have a laser which I use more now anyway.

I like the looks of the VivoActive 3 as it seems to be a lot neater than the clunky big 410. (Although I haven't seen one in my hand yet). Wouldn't mind having an activity tracker for steps and all that craic. Although I would imagine the novelty would wear off after a while. I've no need for the music feature or for it to notify me of texts or other phone alerts. Being January and all that, I've ditched the booze and am on the get fit buzz. Also getting into the swimming a couple of times a month. (Clocked 100 lengths on Sunday :) ) How does this record swims if you are inside?

Am I right in saying you don't need to sync your watch every time you do an activity? It automatically pairs via Bluetooth with your phone? What if I ditch my smartphone? Will it sync with my PC/Laptop? It appears I can sync my Ant+ HR strap with this but it also records a wrist based HR, so it syncing the strap necessary or maybe that is just a better guage?

Overall it reads like a decent watch/tracker at a good price. But is it worth getting when I already have the 410. What makes the Forerunner series of watches so much more expensive?

Is there anything the 410 does that the Vivofit can't do?
