Seems to tick all the boxes if you don't want a S Line for the aforementioned reasons. As with any car verify the service history with the garages that serviced it and run your own car history report.

Your thinking of buying a car you've never driven? Madness. I'd suggest do more homework then start looking in the UK.

Looks like a nice model. I have a 2014 163bhp and it's got loads of power so I'd say the 177 will be lovely.

The Quattro will have higher vrt/road tax and worse for fuel consumption.

Other than that the spec looks really good. Upgraded sound system is nice.

Having being humming and hawing about changing, trying to decide what I wanted/needed and came to the conclusion that an A4 estate would be a suitable/nice replacement, and sourcing in the UK. I wont be going for as new as the OP, and had wanted to start enquiring.
Was wondering what the autos are like as read of an older version in bangernomics (thats what put me onto an A4) that had a full auto gearbox overhaul, is that an issue with some of their autos? problematic?

Whats the difference between and s-tronic and a multitronic?
S-line would be out for me as I dont want something that draws too much attention, but would still like somethign with a bit of poke.
Petrol might suit me, but I think if importing, then diesel is the option due to VRT and probably comparable to here where diesels are likely to be the main engine type anyway.

I wouldnt mind a manual, especially if it was cheaper/more reliable, but an auto would be nice and Id be happy with one, it would be convenient as the wife can only drive automatics.
Good idea to test drive too, I drove a Saab and I really did not like the layout and space and have reluctantly come to the conclusion that a VAG cars is an option for me for space and reliability.
Id also ruled out the idea of buying in the North but it would be a lot more convenient, is there generally considered to be a cost difference (premium) compared to UK mainland? the idea of going to the UK was for better spec/lower mileage, over what might be gotten here, with potentially lower spec and higher mileage at the same or higher cost.

Opinions on the A4 estate and UK/NI

The Stronic is a dual clutch system whereas the older multitronic is a CVT or Continuously Variable Transmission. Stronic would have only been available on the Quattro versions of that model A4 whereas the front wheel drive ones would have been mulitronic. Multitronic imo is not as nice to drive, is slower to shift gears, a bit jerky and hasn't a good track record for reliability. Personally I'd rather the manual over the multitronic gearbox though the pedals in the A4 tend to be oddly positioned to one side which takes a bit of getting used to.

As regarding NI v UK, NI gets the same spec as mainland UK however the UK has a larger selection to choose from and prices in the North are slightly higher due to the convenience of being able to get there without the need for flights/ferry.
