Hi spec & colour of new car not available for number of weeks. Is there any downside being given the showroom car? It will come with extra packs etc and AFAIK (not me buying) it’s not registered yet. This is not the demo car the car that is on display in the showroom. Thanks!

I’d be double checking the bit about it being registered.

Yes that was what I was wondering does it have to be registered to be in the showroom

    Not at all.

I’d just be curious as to how long it’s been there. Has it sat inside the whole time or was it ever taken out for demos?. How’s the paintwork, has it been pawed by all and sundry going though the showroom for an extended period of time? If it has been there a while is it an “old” model, last years spec, etc...

    What brand is it?

I saw it myself and it looked perfect i don’t think specs have changed this year - it’s a Yaris.

    TOYOTA Yaris.

Nah there’s something going on there if it’s a Yaris. It’s either a prereg or an old model/pre facelift etc.
Toyota put normal cars in the showroom, turn them over and just sell what they have. They don’t discount for having had them in the showroom for a while.

There’s no real drawback in having a prereg, it may have a tiny bearing when trading it in, but you obviously need to be getting money off for the fact, as the garage will be either getting a demo discount or a registration bonus from Toyota Ireland for selling x Yaris’s

If its not registered and is in pwo i wouldnt worry, although i would try get a discount. Ex demo cars that have been registered generally turns out to be terrible value imo.
If you bought a new car and drove it around the block and came back, the hit they would expect you to take would be colossal compared tothe discount allowed for ex demo imo.

    It’s not an ex demo

Why would they put a pre facelift model as the model they are trying to sell? Dosent make sense to me?

Also the comment about ‘last years spec’. I see hundreds of Toyotas parked up in their HQ every day waiting to be put on the truck and delivered. Surely these are also last years specs? They could be there a while.

Let’s suppose there’s a newer version of a Yaris (which to be fair has had more facelifts since 2011 than the front row at the Oscars) and the dealer has a few of the old ones left, which ones do you think they need to sell first?

Yes but why have that one as the display? If it was me i’d have the old ones ‘out the back’ and deliver one of those and keep my best model as display?

Listen I don’t want to spoil someone’s day by voicing reservations. Are you generally a suspicious person and do you not think that everything could be above board and it’s just that the colour and spec the customer ordered just happened to be the showroom model. Colour orders was unusual I’d say not the usual red/silver or blue! Salesman tried to get car ordered and it would be s number of weeks so offered the showroom model which happened to be the same colour & spec the customer ordered. They were never sold the showroom model if you get me it was only after the car was ordered.

I'd be looking closely for signs of scratches to the paintwork and interior trim. People can be very careless when looking at cars in a showroom. You would be surprised the amount of cosmetic abuse a car in a showroom can get with customers getting in/out and poking around them. I'd expect one to be treated similarly as a display model TV you would see in the likes of Harvey Norman or Currys.

A car is completely different to a TV display model, that will have been left on for the entire working day for min 8 months but more likely closer to a year. Work that out versus what a domestic home use would equate to and it's a very different scenario.
A showroom model car will have marks, and should be priced accordingly, however the vast majority will polish or buff out before you even collect it.
If it's not been reg'd it should have less than 30klms on it so just ask them to start it/turn the display on.

Surely these cars are turned over continually.

Twice when I've gone to pick up new cars they've been in the showroom as the ""showroom car". Maybe been there couple days on both occasions.

    More likely a registered demo?

It’s not a demo car it’s the showroom car. Not discounted but given 1 year tax. Also has care pack on it worth €200 I think.

IIRC Colm is a former Toyota salesman so, hey, I'd be listening to him.....

1 year tax is a sure sign that it’s very possibly a zero mile pre-reg/registered as a demo. They need to send the VRC to Toyota before they’ll get paid the demo discount. Once they get paid they’ll usually change it into the customers name.

Again this is easily clarified with the dealer by asking the direct question.

Yes that’s what made me wonder. Will get them to ask in morning.
