Audi own car wash

I took my car to get serviced at an Audi dealership and, as you do, looked around the showroom at the demo models.

As part of the service I was due a car wash and vacuum. But after looking at the showroom cars I asked the receptionist to cancel the car wash.

I had looked at a €112k A8 and €72k A7 and both had their paint work destroyed, presumably by the manual brush wash they use. The paint work had swirl type scratches that can possibly be repaired, but look like shīt on very expensive models.

Presumably the workers take them home, get them dirty and need to be cleaned. But, they need to fix the crap car wash process they are using or are going to have trouble shifting expensive metal or get very peeved customers.

It was very obvious under the lighting, and haven't noticed it before in showroom models.

Perhaps the original owners destroyed the paint by using cheap car washes or washing up liquid, the majority of people only buy the car to show off not because they like cars. I know that most garages don't have the best cleaning equipment but they wouldn't wash a car enough to damage the paint.

There's a Landrover garage in Dublin that shoves the brand new off the transporter Ranrge Rovers thorough the petrol station public brush wash next door. I must get a pic of them queuing for it.

The cars I was looking at were showroom models, inside the building, no number plates, about 20 feet from reception. All lit up with power cables from the floor (not the cars battery).

These aren't pre-owned cars, the A8 was listed at €112k.

Might be better than the manual brush some are using.

I'd rather someone use washing up liquid than a brush or putting it through one of those awful machines.

That's shocking. But the worse thing is that they will still sell it because most people don't care about that.

When I got my current car, a GS450h, I had a look at a few before I bought mine. The state of one was terrible and the owner obviously wore massive rings as the paint on the drivers door was worn away and the rest of the paint wasn't much better, it was also missing loads of trim and the tool kit. The one I got was completely different.

One wash is all it takes really.

The thing is, nobody, or at least 98% of buyers don't know or care about what a swirl mark is. It's a problem that doesn't need fixing for most people and if making a vehicle swirl free added to the delivery price then the other 2% probably wouldn't want it done anyway.

A lot of dealers are getting far better at presentation of cars than they used to be, but 100% swirl free delivery will probably never be a thing. Sure even NVD have automatic brush washes for stock vehicle storage washes afaik.

I wouldn't put my own car through an auto brush wash but I wouldn't be too particular after that.

Was it Audi in Sandyford? Noticed the same, €100k Q8 scratched to bits.

    Audi Limerick. Only weeks old.

I might be wrong, but I'd have thought most people when buying expensive demos would check the paint. I've not seen such damage to cars previously, I don't think.

The likes of a person buying an expensive Audi is buying it because it's an expensive Audi. It'd be doubtful they even see the car before it's delivered.

I'm hoping a factory delivered model is going to be 100% okay. But, you have me doubting now.

I bought a relatively expensive demo May 2017 from the same company and no paint work issues.

They have been around a few years but only moved to their own new premises before Christmas.

Yeah, right alongside BMW. Better road into Limeruck, but you'd think it was strategic to move near it's fellow premium brand.

Audi Cork are the same they destroyed our car at one service as I had forgotten to say it... After a thorough machine polish it's not too bad and my local Skoda service it now.

They were only leasing the other site until they built their own. Volvo, LRJ, Ford are also nearby too so it makes sense to have as many dealers in the same area as possible from a buyers point of view. Motor dealer type retail parks are a good idea imo rather than having to drive from one corner of a city to another just to visit different brands.

Nope during PDI they wash the travel protection off, so it depends on the dealership.

Sure look at Sandyford, nearly every brand has a shinny new dealership around the Beacon. Good idea all right as you can walk around for the deals, except for the customer only parking in each dealership so being close just means loads of completely unnecessary journeys as you shop around.
