    Hi all

I'm looking for a 2013-2015 car - something smaller footprint-wise than my 2009 Avensis. I had an earlier thread on this and many good suggestions. I had also been thinking certainly petrol - maybe hybrid Auris-size. Anyway I don't have the funds for the new 1.0 models like a Golf nor the new Corolla hybrid. Could the Civic 1.6d be an option or are diesels a stupid choice ?. Mostly town driving but I've been reading the Civic diesels are more versatile than other diesels dpf-wise etc. Civic 1.4 petrol doesn't appear to rate well. Basically wondering if 1.6d could be a viable option for a few years.
    Thanks, K

Can you elaborate on the 1.4 Civic not rating well?

The mag reports and some comments in here suggest they struggle on the motorway. Perhaps "struggle" to strong but I was just wondering if the general performance was adequate. Perhaps it is. I'm not looking for a GTI just don't want to consider something that's wholly underpowered. Civic works size-wise for me being smaller while feeling like a proper car kit/finish-wise.

I'm confused, are you in need of a diesel?

What is wrong with the avensis????

Big leap going from 2.0 to 1.4 and totally different fuels.

How much motorway driving will you be doing? If it's only occasional trips then the 1.4 would be fine. Won't win any races but will easily keep up with traffic at 120kph on a motorway. If most of your driving is city driving then I think it's the safer and more logical choice over a diesel.

A Toyota Auris 1.33 petrol or hybrid would be worth looking at too.

    Thanks Bazz.
Avensis is OK P...due for a change.. but I'm moving to a house with tight parking and want something tidier size-wise plus reverse can/parking sensors. Civic has all the kit...as prob. Auris does too. Thanks, K

If you are not doing the milage then a diesel is setting you up for problems, I've heard the civics are among the least problematic but I can't vouch as I've never owned a civic or a diesel, if I was going civic from that era I'd get the 1.8 petrol, they are harder to find but solves the gutless issue of the 1.4 without much difference in running cost and you avoid the possible DPF issues. I did quite a bit of research and was close to buying a civic about a year ago but changed my mind due to the seller being a gobsh1te.
