my coolant is very low. How much should it cost for a top up done in a garage? im useless with cars. i can't get the coolant cap off and im not sure if i have the correct coolant. i drive a ford fiesta. the coolant i have is for a fiat panda.

I think coolant is pretty universal, should be the same for most cars.
The fact that it's using water could be a sign of a problem.
    Bring to a garage.

Coolant is not at all universal and there are many types that can't be mixed.
Op your coolant should never need topping up so if it does you have an issue, best get it diagnosed. Water pump is a common culprit in the fiesta

Bring it to Halfords. A coolant top up will cost you peanuts if they manage to get the coolant cap off. Keep an eye on the coolant level and see a mechanic if getting low.

When you last time changed the coolant? There must be a some kind of leak. The old coolant can be abrasive and can damage the plastic and rubber parts. That is why change the coolant at least every 2 years. If you really care about your car, you can replace it every year right before the summer. For regular car it is dirt cheap

Why do it right before summer ?

Because the summer are the warmest time of the year, simple. Check and clean the radiator too.

To answer your question OP the coolant would cost about €15 max and labour for a drain and refill would be minimal.

It really is just a matter of popping the lid and adding a bit of coolant for now though. Then watch the levels..

The coolant already in there will be pink or blue. Buy the same color, top it up yourself and you should be good to go.
