We're hoping to get away this year and like the idea of the family campsite, our kids are 5 and 7 so a good age to start. We don't want to take the ferry tbh so i'm looking for ideas for campsites close to airports in Europe.
    Any recommendations please?

I think the airport with the closest campsite might be Biarritz. Campsite approx 7km from it.

Edit: another one there too, called Camping Oyam. Smaller site.

Thats great thanks i'll have a look.
I don't mind if its a bit further, just want it within a reasonable distance when we get off the plane and its a recommended site.

Le Ruisseau I think it's called. It gets decent reviews.

I have been at 2 very good campsites the last 2 years.

Cypsela is approx 55km from Girona
Vilanova Park is same from Barcelona.

    I'd recommend latter.

If you search around the Eurocamp website there is an option to show camps close to airports.

Handy, although not all airports will be reachable from Irish airports.

    Edit:

Here's the list of Eurocamps filtered by "Near Airport".
    https://www.eurocamp.co.uk/reservations/searchresults?filter=nearairport

You can then filter it further by country, size of site, if it has kids clubs, near beach etc.

I was going to also suggest camps close to venice. Also, there's a eurocamp about an hour from Paris, nice for day trips to Disney

Great suggestions thanks, going to do some homework on them.

I was looking at the Vilanova site and i'm a bit confused, when i went throught the eurocamp website the accommodation looks different than the one on its the Vilanova website, i'm guessing eurocamp have their own setup in this place?
Would it be better advised to book through the vilanova website? (the accommodation looks much better) I'm a complete newcomer at this craic so bare with me! :D

I booked Vilanova with an Irish company Kelair/Campotel.

Yeah the site has a load of different kinds of accommodation. I'd book whichever one you prefer.

Its often reported on the campsite threads here that booking direct with the site is cheaper than booking with the likes of Eurocamp.

Another thing to check, apparently booking with Eurocamp.de is cheaper than using their UK website.

Ak okay cheers. Lots of bad reviews for the eurocamp ones there which scared me off.

Aer Lingus fly to Perpignan. From here I would highly recommend La Sirene campsite.

It’s a huge camp with brilliant facilities for all ages, in a beautiful corner of the Med. It is an easy transfer from the airport.

We booked it through Kelair and by the time it can round I was delighted we were with them because:
    1) a french air traffic control strike meant our flight was cancelled. We were able to re route through Barcelona the next day, it just meant a longer drive. Kelair just moved our booking forward a day at the site, so we didn’t lose any time/money

    2) we met an acquaintance who arrived at the same time as us. They had booked with the campsite directly and there holiday was cheaper. However, while we had all our towels/sheets etc Pre paid, they then had to pay for theirs. Also their Accor has no air-con, which they had to queue for and pay €80 for.

I prefer the peace of mind of having a rep to do all that for me when I’m on my hols!

Camping Fabulous Rome, not too close to the airport but excellent public transport from the campsite into Rome. Great facilities on site. Plus campsite offers airport pick up and drop off

Strange I always book and pay in advance of my travels, never experienced any of what your acquaintance experienced but like your acquaintance my holidays are somewhat cheaper than using a travel agent. Each to their own though.

Only heard of Kelair on this thread, by the looks of it they look to be a good company, would ye have had good experiences with them?

OP, would you hire a car on arrival?
La Rochelle might be worth looking at too. Lots of areas around there.
Can be very useful to have a car to bring the shopping back and for day trips if the weather is bad!

Always better to book accommodation directly with the hotel/campsite, from my experience, you get better standard accommodation and maybe some extra perks as I did with my last hotel, access to indoor pool and spa and better standard of accommodation than booking through third party, this wasn't a campsite by the way.

We have only done 2 camping holidays so far, booked with them both times.
More than happy with their service.

Only thing that would cause me to move is that they are on limited number of sites.

I have been recommended a few sites by friends that Kelair don't have homes on, so would obviously have to move to the likes of Eurocamp, Canvas etc if I wanted to try out those sites.

I suppose it would be worth looking into alright.

I’ve used them four times now, very good to deal with, both here and at any of the sites we’ve stayed at.

    La Sirene - France
    Sanguli - Spain

Been to both - if I had to choose Sanguli would just trump La Sirene for overall package
La Sirene site probably better for kids but Sanguli has beach across road and you can walk safely to both Salou and Cambrils

The walk from La Sirene to the town and beach is on a long windy road and wouldn't be recommended

Ended up booking L'Hippocampe which is the smaller site linked to the bigger La Sirene, kids are only young so didn't fancy the massive site so i think this one suits us as we can use the facilties of the bigger one.

There's a load of caravans parked up by Dublin airport.
