Hi, could someone tell me what the problem with my alternator in my Hyundai Terracan jeep. The jeep starts off fine, but after a few minutes driving the handbreak and battery light comes on, then after another few minutes passes the brake vacuum warning light comes on and the brake peddle becomes stiff. I opened the bonnet and notice the fan in the alternator not turning right. I linked a YouTube video of it. Can this be repaired or will I have to bye a new one? Thanks.

Just buy a new one or get yours reconditioned.
Probably easiest to get a new one.
Have you priced one from Main dealers?

Just priced one off a Main dealer €465 + VAT, the jeep isn't wort that much.
Ebay has one for €180 P&P Included, but you don't know what you could be bying with that. I might see if i can get it repaired.

looks like it could be rebuilt depends on internals you can only see once apart , can be done yourself, or take it to a rebuild service, there are definitely some in Dublin

i would go for that over the ebay one unless its from reputable re-builder ie lucas rather than cheap knock off.

wreckers would normally be 50-70 for used one

It’s most likely the pulley bearing needs replacing. There’s a one way bearing in it and it looks like it’s given up.

Yep it's most likely gone and needs to be replaced or rebuilt, when the battery or charging system fails the car will start to throw up all sorts of warning lights.

Avoid a main dealer if the cost is too great vs the cars value , parts from ebay are mostly fine (I've bought loads over the years) as long as the seller had good reviews etc and should come with a warranty , an alternator should last a long time probably the life of the car once changed once.

If you don't want to use ebay plenty of other independent sites online to source one , labour mainly depends on where it is in the engine bay the easier it is to access the least it will cost.

On my 159 it's just at the top rear and can be got at handy enough from under the car or even the top if your handy, the V6 is a nightmare right down the bottom rear and very little access.

I presume you have completed a voltage check with engine running to ensure it’s def the alternator?
