Repair or replace?

My friend has a 7/8 year old Dell Inspiron N5030 laptop which has an "infinite repair loop issue". I have had a go at fixing it but had no real success apart from getting all the data off the harddrive.

She is now going to bring it to a repair shop to get a quote for repair. I have told her she'd be better off getting a new laptop. It's running Windows 7 and not really a great laptop imo. All its really used for is very basic stuff like Word, Google and some games for her 10 year old son.

Am I right to think it would be foolish to spend money on this laptop when she could get a reasonably cheap brand new laptop which will do a better job and most likely last a lot longer?

Just install Win10 on it via USB.

Costs nothing, but as to how useful the laptop is now depends on the spec of it.

Is Windows 10 still available for free?

Will this fix the infinite repair loop problem?

can still updgrade to win 10 from 7 for free even though was supposed to end in 2016

    https://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/

7/8 year old laptop probably going to struggle is this day and age unless at the very least an ssd upgrade is performed on the hard drive.

It's not even possible to boot this laptop in safe mode because of the infinite repair loop issue so its probably more hassle than it's worth.

Thanks though. I have an old laptop running Windows 7 that I might try it out on.

Just sounds like windows is corrupted or hard drive is dying. Upgrade to Windows 10 will do no harm and it's simple to do. No need to bring into a repair shop. Unless you give the specs of the laptop can't advise further

I cannot get past the screen in the attached image. Regardless what choice I make it returns to this screen.

How can I upgrade to Windows 10?

download windows 10 iso from microsoft on another pc
    (free)

get a usb key min 8gb. completely wiped

google how to create usb bootable key using the key and iso file you have

go into bios on the fecked laptop (usually f12 on reboot from cold)
and set usb to boot drive in settings

    insert key and reboot
