    Hi All,
Quick summary, have bought private since I started driving in 2005.
First car a polo classic 2nd hand cost me €3,000 and had it for 9 years.
Second car bought in 2014 Peugeot 307 O2,the car which I currently drive.
Car is only fit for scrapage now.Midlife crisis now sick of driving wheelie bins with an engine.
This is my first time buying from a main dealer.
My budget is €21,000,going to put in €11,000 cash and rest using Renault Finance over 5 years @€;200 a month.
Going for a Megane Sport Tourer Estate or Megane Grande Coupe 172/181.
Wife drives a Renault Fluence the past 4 years which never skipped a beat.
From the Southeast so will be going to Dublin dealer to buy.
    Finally to my questions.
1.After I choose car I want, would I be able to take car home same day.
2.Have no credit union, credit card loans or mortgage arrears would I be cleared for Renault Finance same day.
3.What documents do I need to bring on day for Finance?
4.Can I switch my current insurance from my Peugeot to new car while at dealer?
    5. Do I mention to Dealer that I’m going to put in €11,000 cash before I try haggle with him?
    Any help appreciated.

You might be but I would not rush into buying a car the same day as you might spot imperfections or other cosmetic things that the dealer needs to put right before you hand over your money. Sometimes if a dealer's workshop is busy they won't have time to do it the same day. And I'd rather come back another day to pay and collect the car when these things are addressed as it's much easier to get them addressed before you hand over the money than after.

Are you saying you have no credit history of borrowing or no history of defaulting on a loan or debt? If it's the former then having no credit history might mean more digging into your background as you have basically no history of borrowing or the ability to pay it back. They might seek more documentation or evidence from your workplace around your earnings, etc. If you a record of having previous difficulties in repaying a loan then that would obviously stand against you and you could very likely be declined finance.

Normally stuff like, utility bills, bank statement, payslip, etc. Check out the Renault website or ring the dealer in advance so you have it when you get there.

Yes you can but if you are doing it on a weekend then make sure the insurance company is open or it can be done online otherwise you should arrange it in advance.

I wouldn't, negotiate the best price on the car first, then introduce the option of financing how you pay for it. Worth noting that dealers get a commission from banks for introducing new customers to them through finance so try and negotiate a bit more off the price if you can. Other things to try and negotiate on are things like fuel and maybe some motor tax. They may refuse but if you don't ask then you won't get.

    @bazz26
Thanks a million for your insight.
    As regards to points
    1. Really busy at work and it’s a 3 hour round trip to dealer so anxious to get it same day.But going to take your advice so if I have to go a second day so be it.
Intend to visually inspect as much as possible when taking for test drive.
    2. Sorry wasn’t clear on this.Have had loans in past credit union etc. but all have being paid on time and currently have no loans.
Would it be advisable or is it possible to get pre approved for Renault Finance(99% sure I will be accepted).
    3. Will bring pay slip and utilities bills with me.
    4. My insurance is with Axa so will find out if I can do this on A Weekend.
    5. Had it in my head the bigger cash deposit would be better for Dealer but as you say it’s the Finance which they make their money on so Thanks for that.
Will keep cards close to my chest if possible.
Again Thanks bazz and if anyone else has any other tips for me it would be more than welcome.
Hopefully will be buying in 2 weeks time.

Is there a dealer closer to you? Any particular reason why it has to be a Dublin dealer?

First thing I'd do once decided on a car/spec is price it with as many dealers as I can to see the price variations.

Your chances of driving away are very slim as most dealers won't do a service until the car is sold.
