Going to be in LA for a couple weeks - and looking for ideas...
will have a car and willing travel a bit - (up to 4hours distance max - so San Francisco is too far)

Would like to take in some city sights, and some desert views & route 66 type historic American places.

Especially interested in any very large boot sales or antique fea markets if anyone knows any, or where I can find about where any big ones might be.

    Thanks all.

If your'e gonna be there for a couple of weeks, why limit to 4 hour drive max? You could make a good weekend road trip if you leave after work on a Friday at 5pm and get some miles under your belt.

For desert views you have the Mojave, Joshua Tree National park, Death Vally. All easily do-able over a weekend.
