African Countries In The Dregs Of IQ Rankings

If you don't already know, Most African countries lie at very bottom of the world's IQ rankings.

Sub-Saharan Africa arguably hosts the most backwards nations on Earth. When taking measures of literacy, productivity, education, rule of law, corruption, crime, poverty, innovation in terms of patents, Nobel Prizes or Fields Medals, health care, quality of life, etc., SS Africa falls either at or near the bottom.

I am interested to see other people's opinions on why this seems to be the case?, and what could we could do to help?

Given access to the same advantages we have, yes I do.

According to a google search Singaporeans have the highest IQ, maybe we westerners should be trying to emulate those Asians.

South Korea and Japan round out the top 3.

+1 IQ tests are notoriously inaccurate in (not only) the developing world.

Then please explain why newborn children adopted from African countries frequently achieve lower scores on IQ tests compared to their western non-adopted siblings?

I left school at 16 with 4 O levels. My husband had two primary degrees, a Master's degree and a H.Dip. all achieved before he was 23. I could always beat him in IQ tests because I had done them at various stages during my education, and I was rather more creative - I could 'see' connections and sequences. They don't prove anything. And there is more than one type of intelligence.

Because both sites are bs. Also IQ studies are up there with phrenology in science. It's a highly varied definition that changes with variables such as who is doing the testing.

Oh - and during my time living in East Africa most of the Africans I met spoke multiple languages and dialects - at a minimum, their tribal language, the local most common tribal language, Swahili and English. Yes, definitely thick. How many languages do you speak Splashuum?

There was a research out couple of years ago that poverty makes you about 15 points stupider. Men used to be better at iq tests, I'm too lazy to check if that's still the case. People from north of USA used to do better as those from south and so on. Even in one's life time the iq score will change. I'm pretty sure mine is now quite a bit lower than it used to be, oh's is still at similar level because he operates with numbers, technical drawings and creative solutions.

IQ tests have inherent biases and should not be used as a marker of intelligence, .
as a previous poster said, all a high IQ test demonstrates is an ability to score well on an IQ test not a person's truentelligence.
if one went back in time pre independence, Irish people were considered of low intelligence with higher rates of mental illness and inferior by other Europeans, based on prejudice not objective evidence

It's a touchy subject, and a study would be fascinating, unfortunately no one would touch it as their career could be finished, people will always assume it will have a white supremacy angle.

I do think there are differences in intelligence based on race - but not on strength, but rather in different areas.
So for example Asians I think will dominate in Maths - this due to their way of counting in their languages suits a learning kids brain more.

Problem is with IQ tests, they are designed for western education systems.

Imagine the average IQ can be lowered due to infectious disease causing injury to children. For example outbreaks of measles mumps rubella, sepsis, encephalitis, birth injuries etc will have a delerterious effect on a populations' IQ.
I expect, as sanitation, healthcare and housing improves in these countries average IQ rates will rise. I suspect Ireland is a good example of this concept. There is also good merit in the argument that if you culturally don't value IQ tests or the skills IQ tests measure,,then you won;t score highly(as per Quintus Fabius)

And so what? Even if a certain race or ethnicity did happen to be on average less intelligent than others what difference would it make? Im sure if they received the same level of education as europeans do IQ would be similar anyway

Are you implying that the conditions are a result of the IQ or the IQ the result of the conditions? A combination of the two?

I'd guess it's a lot more complicated but that the two aren't completely independent variables.
