Office install

I installed Office 2019 on a laptop, without knowing that Office 2016 was already installed. Office 2019 will now not open, even though it is showing in the programs list in control panel. Will I have to start from scratch and reinstall Windows 10?

Remove both versions of Office from "Programs and Features", restart as required and then reinstall Office 2019.

Alternatively you can use the Microsoft Office Uninstall Tool first, then reinstall it - https://aka.ms/diag_officeuninstall
