    Hi All,

I'm driving from Waterford to Limerick this Friday, and I've to be in Castletroy for 9.30am.

Can someone tell me what's the inbound traffic like at that hour of the morning (8.30-9.30am)?

    Thanks.

Where abouts in Casteltroy are you heading?

University of Limerick students back on campus as of today so traffic is much heavier around UL.

I'm heading to the Castletroy Hotel.

I'd budget an extra 20-25 mins to get through the traffic since it's right beside the uni. Traffic can be heavy coming in from exit 28 if you're coming from the Tipp side.

Would I be better off bypassing the main approach road to the City, and going via eg Annacotty?

(Don't know the area very well at all).

Depends really on which side of tipp you come in from. If you're coming in the motorway then yes I'd go by Annacotty, but the traffic on the roundabout at Finnegans can be very heavy. If you're coming in the tipperary road by B&Q I'd stick with that (I come in that way each day on my commute).

At what time would I want to hit Limerick in order to miss the early monring traffic?

Mackey Roundabout is extremely heavy at that time in the mornings (M7 motorway feeds down on to it as well as all traffic coming from Tipp/Castleconnell etc).

From about 9 onwards the traffic starts to disappear so if you are reaching it around that time you shouldn't have any problems (Castletroy Park Hotel is only about 10 mins from there).

To hit the Mackey roundabout(I'm on it every morning) it's up to 8:15am and then it really starts to pick up. I go through that roundabout and then down the N24(Ballysimon flyover) to drop my wife off and then back out and traffic heading down the road is busy to turn right on towards Castletroy but always moving.

The problem is when you come towards the Groody roundabout and it gets very busy.

I'd still go this way coming from Tipperary.

Other option is this head off the N24, along golf links road and either left or right on Dublin road to get to the hotel.

I travel to UL from the other side of the city and regardless of lecture start times I try to be there before 8 and I avoid the mania!

Wouldn't make sense. Just take the normal route...

Waterford- Clonmel - Cahir - Bansha - Tipp - Monard - Oola - Boher - Dromkeen ..and turn right at the Ballysimon roundabout @ the new Northern Trust.

I'd leave at 6:30 am from Waterford.

Yes just come the normal route. There will be a bit of extra traffic around that time but 3 hours from Waterford will be plenty.

You're only adding more distance and time by going up to Annacotty.
