Operating System Not Found

Looking for a bit of advice on the following ... repairing a HP pavillion Dv6500, it was suffering from a BSOD and wouldn't boot in to Windows at all, just gave " Operating System not Found".. It would boot up from a Linux cd but still wouldn't see the hard drive, also the hard Drive wasn't showing up in the BIOS either. I ran a test on the Ram and all passed. I removed the hard drive and put it into an identical Hp laptop where it was recognized in the BIOS, ran a HARD Drive test on it and passed.. Doubled checked the hard drive with Linux and Spinrite and all passed.. Now there wasn't much stored on the hard drive to begin with so I decided to do a fresh install of Windows and get rid rid of the BSOD. All installed correctly and working as it should. BUT when i replace the hard drive back into the initial HP laptop ... I am greeted with " Operating Systen not Found" and again not showing up in the BIOS ... I know the Hard Drive is good and Windows is installed correctly... I'm wondering what could be the problem when its not been recognized .. is it a motherboard thats on the way out although everything else seems to function ok .. booting from cd,runing memtest etc... any help ideas appreciated.. Thanks in advance.

Does the bios need a firmware update?

It has the latest Bios firmware, unless it is corrupted, however I'm not sure how to flash it again when no hard drive recognized.
Will have to do a bit more research... Thanks for the reply.
