Help with old Chinese Android tablet-Ainol Novo 7

Hi there! So after decluttering my stuff, I realised I had one of these cheapo Chinese tablets (Ainol Novo 7 Mars) which I don't even remember buying. It's probably about 6-7 years old and was used maybe a total of 5 times for browsing and stuff.

Now I tried to open it but realised the battery was dead so I charged it for a few hours. When I tried to open it, it got stuck on the Ainol logo mode for so long I was convinced I won't be able to use it. Searched through the web and found a way to boot it several ways (pressed on power mode + volume key) I did it a few times and it always got stuck on the logo mode. Until one method (which unfortunately I can't remember which option it was-either factory reset or wipe cache partition or something-sorry!) AND I was able to open it to the home screen. However, it's only that --a black Home screen. No apps appear, and only the back-Home-background button at the bottom. Clock, wifi & settings buttons are visible too. I tried to check the apps from the Settings but I can't open them or anything. Is there a term for when this happens and how can I fix it??

    Some images of the screen:

I really appreciate any help. My only plan really with this tablet is to use it for e-reading. Hope someone can help. Thank you in advance!
