For the last month the boot of my car is constantly wet. I dry it out and a couple of days later the water is colllecting again. The back seats seem to be getting damp too.

All windows are secure and the inside of them remain dry

Any ideas what could be causing it and where the water is coming from

Check the rubber seals around the boot are not blocked up with leaves or other debris.

Depends on what car it is. I had issues with a Focus allowing water in through vents in the boot.

Other debris is code for body wrapped in plastic/carpet

It’s an 09 fiesta, uk import only 30k miles on it.

Seals all appear to be fine

My money would be the seals around the rear lights, or if the car had a towbar removed and the holes not sealed afterwards. Could also be rear window wiper seal letting water in...

Sadly, the early mk7 has a reputation for leaking.

09 car + only 30k on it? Something not adding up there. Did you do a full check on car before you bought it?

The UK is full of old dears who buy cars new then barely drive them. Doesn’t seem to happen as much here but it does happen. I traded in a 10 year old Corolla years ago with 22000 miles.

Yes I was living in the uk when I bought it 3 years ago. I only put about 1500 miles on it myself in the length of time I have had it and that includes driving it over myself.

It is our second car. Most uk cars have very very low mileage as they are not used for commuting

I had this in a Fiesta (2007). Couldn't find it myself, said to garage where I was getting it serviced. They couldn't find. Different garage the next year and mentioned it again and they fixed it. Was getting in through the light fitting.

My wife had 2006 Ford Fiesta from new she sold it last August. It leaked water around spare wheel area from day one. Return to garage when under warranty but issue kept persisting. I found out two years ago from a retired Ford mechanic told me its a well known issue with these modals. He also said Ford were well aware of it. He saw some Ford fiesta and focus's leaking round doors also.

I drilled three hole's at the lowest point in boot under spare wheel. Done the job.

Keep in mind the OPs car would be a mk7, the model that came out in 2008.

Check around the where the rear windscreen wiper is located on the inside of the boot lid. Always a weak point in Fords when it comes to water leaks.

Had problems around the light housing, sorted, took the lights out, silicones around it ,replaced it,solved

I had this problem with my Opel vectra. Seal around the radio Ariel was loose and the water was getting in that way.

Fixed this on my wife's focus(hatchback) a few weeks ago, problem was where the screws that holds the tail-light housing to the body. Removed screws, filled holes with sealant and put the screws in through the sealant.Sorted the issue .

Had this with an Avensis, it was the rear light housing seal, just got it taken care of during a service

I had a Mondeo where the tube feeding water from the screen wash reservoir to the rear window split at a joining in the boot. Any time I tried to clean the rear window I flooded the boot! An easy fix though - removed the lining on the right(?) side of the boot and reconnected the two bits of tubing.

I had this problem with a 2016 fiesta. Started small but after a few months there was a smell of damp in my car and the seats were soaking and mould started growing so traded it in.

    +1 for the rear lights.
I removed and put a silicone seal around. It was an old car though. :)

    Fixed it
