I am sorry to hear of the passing of Gerry McCarthy so soon after the loss to the Cork chess community of Philip Short and Maurice Kennefick. Gerry and I first met over the board about forty years ago and we were always on the best of terms. We last played in Cork just a few short months ago. Gerry was a true gentleman and someone who I always had a lot of time for. May he rest in peace.
