Plasterwork query

Hi All We have just moved into a new house (110 years old) and the plastering along the stairs is very bad- totally uneven and it just looks awful. Would anyone have recommendations for a relatively easy/cheap way to improve this? Thanks in advance.

With wet trades there usually isn't an easy way other than redoing it tbh.
