Hi, I am thinking of putting a loft in my garage for storage purposes. Advice needed as to the recommended joist dimensions and spacing and flooring type and thickness. Recommendations on brackets for supporting the joists also welcome.

With respect I wouldnt give advice on any structural aspect of a build as there are too may variables. Likewise I wouldnt accept structural advice from strangers on an internet forum if roles were reversed.

I would suggest you contact an engineer or architectural technician with PI insurance cover as they can design, inspect and certify the works.

Use span calculators to work out safe joist dimensions and match those up with face fix hangers, e.g.

    https://eurometals.ie/product/joist-hangers-standard-types/

The hangers will have recommended fasteners, make sure you get those right.

    Simpson hangers are good.
