Have €5,000, daughter is set on a golf, petrol. Think 2011 has newer shape to 2010 model but open to correction. Are these ok as I know the older ones e.g 2002 ones used burn oil.

Those years wer the same model the mk6 a nice car in the right spec basic ones came with nothing and they certainly are not without there faults petrol engines are the old 1.4petrol and the chain tsi engines and the reliability is poor enough

Yeah, they are a nice car but only in the right spec. A Highline model is a nice car and some of the special edition ones are ok but the Trendline ones and some of the basic UK models are desperate yokes altogether.

The 1.2 TSI in them is decent to drive but has an appetite for timing chains. If it hasn't had a chain, i would 100% factor a chain into the purchase price. That's the worst of them, they are prone to some other small niggly bits but not much else to be afraid of.

I’d say my budget won’t buy a 1.2tsi looking them up on carsireland there.

It would be hard to recommend one. Whether you’re looking at 1.2 or 1.4 there are issues.

It’s just timing chain on 1.2, so what is the issue on the 1.4? The thought of putting away the price of doing a chain in the future would be something I wouldn’t mind.

The non turbo 1.4 is still the same engine as in the mk5 so the same issues, I know on the mk5 the higher powered 1.4 TSIs had big issues, I believe the 122bhp version is much better but (correct me if I’m wrong TFB) still can have issues with timing chains.
