Where can I report recruitment agencies?

Is there a body which I can report recruitment agencies to? A friend of mine was recently offered a job, but was still in the running for a job which paid about 20000 more. When the recruiter was informed he responded with "do you want to be raped by the tax-man?". Secondly when my friend called back to say that she had no interest in the job, the recruiter got very aggressive, and said stuff like "you're floating around, and in 2 weeks you'll have no job. And no one else will want you and "why don't you learn to drive?"(friend doesn't drive and job was a great distance away) I know recruiters can be irritating, but this seemed extremely unprofessional.

You can hardly report that on behalf of someone else? If your friend has a problem they should just complain to the agency management.

Posting for a friend. This was management. Which is why I'm wondering is there some sort of governing body to direct complaints at.

If your friend feels that strongly about it then report the agency to the hiring company, I'm sure they wouldnt want to be associated with such tactics.

Recruiters are sales people. They typically have a target of 1 hire per month. So you can imagine the kind of stress they're under.

I'm not excusing their bad behaviour.

My advice is to try to empathise with them (difficult, stressful job) and move on. Obviously you should not use any of these agencies again, and feel free to bitch about them as often as possible.

No - and there are a lot of extremely unprofessional ones out there.

I got a call from one a few years back, I had applied for an advertised job and he called me and began to question me about a gap on my CV (which he clearly had not read correctly as the gap was covered by full time study) - anyway, he roared down the phone at me "SO WHAT WERE YOU DOING FOR 2 YEARS - OFF POPPIN OUT SPROGS WERE YA???".

I told him coldly that I was unable to conceive and hung up. What kind of a fool says something like that to a woman?

Some time later we were advertising a job in work and we gave it to one agency - not this one. I got an email from the same shoddy recruiter telling me they had an opportunity I would be interested in. He attached a spec that was a copy and paste from the spec I had written and given to a different recruiter. He even advertised it on a job website. I contacted the job website and told them I knew it was a fake listing because I had written the spec and it was legitimately with another recruiter. They removed the ad.

I'd actually reckon that it was the same guy referenced above, he said a **** load of inappropriate things that would be tounge-in-cheek for close family and friends to say.

I must say your post did strike a familiar chord with me.

His initials are MM and he is the owner of the agency he represents.

The man, the myth, the legend! It is indeed the same guy. Thanks for that, glad to see someone else has experienced his attitude first-hand!
