Meals allowance

Hi just a quick question on taxation of meals allowance. Say for example the payslip has €600 gross and meal allowance of €50. Taxable pay says €550. A colleague requested a p21 from revenue but they have calculated it on the gross and not taxable. Payroll say it should be tax free.

Thanks for that. The daily rate we get is €11.50. I'm presuming that should be tax free then?

Not, IMO, if it provided in your normal place of work.

There's a canteen in the yard but we are out of the yard all day for up to 12 hours sometimes.

That sounds like round sum expenses/allowances which are taxable. It sounds like your employer may have an issue which would be picked up an audit easily.
