    Hi all,

We are only in our house a few months and the water pump is driving me mad. It comes on when you use any of the taps & not just the shower. Also the pressure is a bit high! Has anyone had a similar problem? We have air to water heating system as well. I don't mind the pump coming on when using the shower but is there anyway of not having it on for the taps? Or is our only option to try soundproof the water pump.

    Thanks :)

    Any photos of the pump?

Depends what the pump is sitting on,its not great if it is sitting on the floor,if so at least a pump matt should be fitted.

    It could be

    - Cheap Pump

    - Expensive pump poorly fitted.

    Generally its the second one.

There are simple remedies to all, best post a picture of it.

I will take a pic when I get home. There is one downstairs under the stairs and a second then in the Hotpress and it's up high.

The usual cause of a noisy pressure pump is because some genius has put it straight down on to a timber floor, or on the joists. Wood is an excellent transmitter of sound. It should be placed on a non-resonant surface with a rubber mat under it, and connected by flexible pipework.

Excellent advice. i followed similar I received on boards a few years ago, and am quite unaffected by my water pump's noise level as a result.

I have a pic of the water pump attached and the manual with name.
It's actually just under the stairs. So It's just concrete is under it & we just put carpet in there to try drown it out. So any ideas of what can silence this contraption? ☺️

That's good to hear 😌as I feel I can't even put on a tap if it's late at night as it's so loud!

Thank you. I will definitely try a rubber mat under it as currently I just have carpet. It's not on a timber floor or joists though...

Cold weather on the way but what about snow? - The Weather Studio15/01/19.

I fitted a large pressure vessel beside pump which stores water under pressure which is used first when a tap or shower is turned on. When it's exhausted the pump will kick in and re fill it. Saves on power by reducing the number pump starts and also increases the pump life. It means you could have a quick shower or flush toilet without pump coming on. The larger the the vessel the better.
