Satellite FTA and foreign sports

Hi all, apologies if this has been asked before feel free to point me towards any thread that may help.

Basically I want to get rid of Virgin Media (it's my 2019 resolution).

Ideally I'd like to set up a nice FTA set up, I'm fairly handy at putting up the dish etc, that won't be a problem. I'm wondering is there a satellite/receiver that allows me to get the Irish/UK FTA channels as well as a foreign sub to watch football.

I'm not concerned about recording shows on TV etc, it's mainly for being able to watch the big free to air events.

    All recommendations greatly appreciated.

What sports are you wanting to get?

    Mainly football. Thanks

What football exactly? If you’re not picky, and if you’re willing to take each month as it comes and not worry that it’ll probably close down in May/June, Eleven Sports is fairly cheap €7 and gives you nearly all La Liga and many Serie A fixtures.

Depends on what country you want a sub for and what sports you want to watch. Then you pick a cam and/or receiver that's compatible.

But if it's UK football your want then that's a big fat no.

Also be aware that you would be more than likely listening to matches in a foreign language, especially for the Premier League.

And just to give the warning before the thread goes down that road - there is no discussing reception of any service that does not offer its service in either Ireland or the UK

Maybe you should ask in the Foreign Satellite section?
    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=622
For discussion of foreign satellite TV and channels.
