Tv Licence

Does anyone know if the tv licence crowd can take money from your account without consent. Reason I ask is that I owed roughly €65 from the year previous and they sent a letter saying I needed to pay this year and the owed amount from the year before (reason it’s owed is that I changed bank accounts and forgot to swap over the direct debit to new bank account it was getting payed by direct debit each month ). I have no problem paying both amounts. But they sent a letter requesting that I pay them and then I noticed on the 8th that they just went in and took that amount regardless or me replying or setting up a plan with them. Has anyone had the same thing happen or is this common practice for the tv license. As far as I can remember they follow other steps as in send you a court order if unpaid or a letter saying you have so many days etc ,I didn’t think they could just take it ??either way it would have been paid but I think it was a bit...sly??

You signed up to pay 166 by DD each year. If you failed to pay the 13.33 each month they have every right to let take the full amount at the end of the the year. I'm surprised you don't cancel the Direct debit for this year and you pay it all up front. Would be much easier for them to do it that way and would avoid your unpaid direct debit charges.

Have no problem paying it. Just that it went unnoticed for the second half of the year as forgot to switch it over like the rest of the DD. Has only ever missed payment due to this error. Thought they would have issued something to let you know before they went it and took the balance. Not that I didn’t want to pay it!sure look it’s payed now sooo
