Pre-purchase mechanic inspection [Dublin]

    Hi all

    Has anyone used one of the mechanic inspection services advertised online (ie, where they physically inspect the second hand car car as well as giving you details of the car's history and any odometer discrepancies)?

    I'm looking at a 3 year old Audi at the moment but need peace of mind before saying yes - it has high enough mileage and I really haven't a clue about engines and what I should be looking out for. I'm aware of the major issues such as when the timing belt is due a replacement and the service intervals to date ...but that's about it :o

    There are a few sites online advertising these services, such as motorcheck.ie and dublindiagnostics.com but wanted to check in here first before booking anything.

    Any other recommendations (ie, whether I should just approach an individual mechanic) would be much appreciated.

    I think with a high mileage motor the biggest thing is service history. It needs a comprehensive documented service history, hopefully with receipts and all.
