Hi peeps, my sisters told me today that they fell out with their class teaching assistant at lunchtime.

It was raining at lunchtime so he made all kids put their jackets on as he didn't want the kids coming back in with soaking wet uniforms. No problem with that, they obeyed him then put the hood up and headed out to play.

He was doing his check around the playground to see if all the kids still had their jackets on when he spotted my sisters were off so he gave them a stern telling off, put the jackets back on them, fastened them up and put up the hoods.

He then warned that if they removed the jackets, they'd be sent back inside.

What annoyed my sisters was that they are unsure if is allowed to do that?

I'd find it strange a teacher or teaching assistant bringing a class out in the rain.
Raise your issues with the principal or Board of Management or have a chat with the class teacher.
What's the deal with you solving your sisters problems? Is there anybody else around?
Are these the new jackets?(The OP sisters also had their jackets stolen and sleves cut off)

First of all, its me dealing with these issues because our parents work during the day so can't. And secondly, yes, these are new jackets.

Lots of people need the odd bit of advice when looking after siblings but you really need to talk to your parents about this because you appeal to be struggling.

I was just wondering if the teaching assistant is allowed to do what he did that's all :).

I could understand if it was their teacher though.

Ok, I take it your in the UK.
In Ireland we don't have teaching assistants.
We generally have special need assistants but there role is changing slightly now.
I do believe these people can zip up a kids coat but I don't know if they can do it forcefully. I find it strange that they brought kids out in the rain in the first place.
Now it's really up to parents if they want to make a matter out of this with the school. They should start by contacting the class teacher.

Definitely go straight to your solicitor and claim.
Against who? Anyone. The Teachers Assistant, the school, Met Eireann, the jacket manufacturer.
With today's compo culture you're bound to stumble across some mad cap case and a sympathetic judge.
You'll probably end up making your parents millions and they'll never need to work again.

"Schoolgirl warned not using her coat for its intended purpose by responsible adult, feels its unfair rain is wet, awarded lump sum by Judge"

We have teachers assistants in Ireland.
We have done for a long time.
it was probably a bit of drizzle, there's no suggestion they were sent out in a hurricane.
The whole things a non issue and why I feel for anyone working in a school.
Unless her parents are working in a sweat shop, the OP can tell them about this and let them deal with it if they want.

Any primary school teacher or special need assistant I've spoken to have always told me they want to have the same style teaching assistant they've in the UK.
In the past the S.N.A(I think they've done away with that term)used mainly be attached to one child but now it's more generally in the school but it's nothing similar to how the UK system works.
Any sign of rain/drizzle in my area the kids are brought in.

Was there a weather warning in place?

    Mod Note
OP the thing you can do is ask your parents to deal with this.
They are lots of other forums on here from cooking to parenting to education and you might find helpful advice.
