Edision OS MEGA becomes unresponsive or crashes

    Can anyone help here please?

    Edision OS MEGA Triple Tuner
    1.6GHz Dual Core
    1TB internal drive SSHD
    Vix 5.1.019 Enigma2
    Skin: Blue-HD (1280 x 720)

Tuner A and B are satellite and Tuner C is Terrestrial

    One Bouquet containing all channels.
I don't use ABM I just use dreamboxEDIT to make my list of channels and send them back to the box.

My channel list order starts with the Irish terrestrial channels then goes down through the satellite channels.

There is no issue with Channel Selection generally, up and down, and selecting any channel. There is no problem with recording one or two channels at the same time.

    The problem will occur when...
I am watching the last satellite channel on the list and I press the 'CH' button UP on the remote control to go to the next channel.
(The next channel up is actually at the start of the channel list, it is the first terrestrial channel on the channel list).

When I press the 'CH' button UP on the remote I see the blue rotating ring in the top left corner of the screen, the channel content isn't interrupted, it's as if the box isn't responding to any further commands from the remote control. This seems to continue like this for ages (I haven't waited any longer than that). At this stage the box is unusable. I have to perform a hard shutdown of the box from the power switch at the rear of the box.

Any ideas what might be going on here?

    Debug log attached: Enigma2_debug_2018-03-10_13-02-22.log
    Issue reproduced Saturday 10th March (2018) between 20:23pm - 20:25pm

Probably best viewed using something like Notepad++.
March 2018 just happens to be the last time I put it in debug mode and reproduced the issue.

    Thanks.

Get rid of the Blue HD Skin. That is the cause of your problems. Are you storing the picons and epg on a usb stick ? Get one and dedicate it for these.

Dont have the box read from the hdd for picons and epg, if you intend on using it for recording. Thats what its doing.

    STB

Everything goes to and from my internal SSHD:
picons, skins, epg, recording (and timeshift if I use it).

It sounds as if you're saying in order of likelihood it is the Blue HD Skin that is causing the problem more so than having picons and epg on the same SSHD.

Yes I would like to try changing to another skin but I only have about 2 or 3 other skins and they don't seem that appealing. I will try them for the sake of troubleshooting my issue though.

Any links where I can get quick easy good skins free?

    I'll get back to you.

    Thanks.

I've tried at least four other skins, two that came with the box and two Slyk skins downloaded from here
http://venuscs.net/paneladdons/skins/OpenViX/?C=M;O=D but that made no difference.

I've mounted a USB stick at the back of the box and configured that as the location for the EPG (/mnt/usb) but no difference.
I even did a fresh EPG download and gave the box a full reboot.

I have yet to get a larger capacity USB stick and put the picons on that - I don't know how to point the box only to use picons on a USB but I'll look into yet.

    Interesting and frustrating :-)

Avoid the sky skins, there's lots of issues and unfixed bugs with them. Go to plugins and download a new skin from the software repository, these will be tried and tested.

Picons should only be a few hundred megabytes. They go in media/usb/picon

Switch to OpenPLi and give that a go.

ONLY download Skins (as THHB above has suggested) from the plugins panel feeds.

You set your epg to the usb under epg setup. When you are downloading the picons your machine from the plugin feeds it should prompt you as to where you want them installed.

"Picons should only be a few hundred megabytes"

My /picons folder on the hdd is over 8GB.
Inside that folder is a folder called /logos which is consuming over 3GB of that 8GB.
I can't imagine myself sifting through thousands of picons/logos and deleting the ones I may not want.

I want to take this step-by-step, so I'm considering (while still using Vix) uninstalling the picons plugin, installing it again and see if it will prompt me to choose to install picons to the USB.

Is openpli better than Vix in many ways?

    Thanks

By the way, if it helps someone on this thread the issue doesn't occur if I do the reverse.
i.e. it doesn't happen if I start at the first terrestrial channel on the list, at the top of the list of my channels, and press the CH button down, it brings me to the last channel on the list, which of course is my last satellite channel.

I thought I would mention this as I don't understand why it only happens when I do CH up on the last channel, in an attempt to bring me to my first terrestrial channel which is (RTE 1).

How many satellites have you tuned, that plugin is most likely pulling down picons for all channels on all European satellites when you most likely just need 28.2e.

I've a set of picons posted in this post for another box, download them and see do you like them (not my work btw)

That possibly sounds like it, all this because of picons?

It seems I have tuned into 28.2e and 19.2e.

Sorry but I can't seem to find your set of picons posted on that page.

If I'm supposed to be doing things right should I uninstall the picons plugin, get rid of the 19.2e satellite from the config and install the picons plugin again?

To delete 19.2 open favourites, reception lists, hover over 19.2, press menu and delete. That is assuming you don't have a multi lnb setup with the second lnb pointing at 19.2

Uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin would most likely give you the exact same 8GB set of picons. It's doubtful it checking what channels you've tuned.

    Here's the picons pack

At last I found the cause of my problem i.e. it was me

I had used dreamboxEDIT to delete other bouquets I didn't want, keeping just the 'TV' bouquet for my channels.
When I got to the last channel in the TV channels list the Edision OS mega just froze/crashed (wouldn't respond).

Setup > User interface > Channel Selection > Change bouquets in quickzap -> "no"

This was set to 'yes' by default so I set it to 'no'.

    Description
"When enabled, continue to the next bouquet when the last channel of the current bouquet is reached"

Thank you all for your input on this, much appreciated.
