How to get a Dealer to hold Car before inspection?

We have seen a car online which will be available in 2 weeks. Approved used car from a Main Dealer. It fits our criteria exactly and is within budget (just!). Dealer located about 1.5 hours drive from us.

However, from enquiries we will both be out of the country when it comes in to the garage.

Would it be acceptable to offer to pay a Deposit for the Garage to hold it for us for 1 week subject to inspection and clear history/finance or is this a terrible idea ??

Would be pretty certain that we would buy this car.

Don't think the garage is under any obligation to accept the offer. You can only contact them and ask I'd say

Ring 'em up and ask them. Shouldn't be any need for a deposit or anything, if they're anyway decent. You're offering to take the car off their hands less than a fortnight after they receive it, so I'd say they wish every used car sold that well.

A lot of dealers will encourage a holding deposit like that. I'd say they'd have no issue, if you're game for it.

Thanks everyone. Going to phone them tomorrow and see what they say. Worst case scenario they say No, I suppose. No harm asking.
