No tax credits

    Hi all,

I changed jobs start of December, was on emergency tax up until Xmas.

First payment today for 2019 and on payslip I have no tax credits on it so I paid huge amount of tax and got basically feck all payment for two weeks wages!

I went onto paye online, there’s an old job on it from years ago where I did relief work and my tax credits appear to be attached to that. I’ve updated my new employment details on it last month so wondering what the cause of this is, my old employment has gone of it now so it’s not that.

Really confused what to do and how to rectify it or get extra tax money back I’ve paid and how to stop it in the next payment day.

Ring Revenue. They’ll sort it out there and then. Have yours and your employers numbers. They’ll be on your pay slip.

Totally broke now, was shocked to say the least when I got payslip today!

    Thanks again.

You can edit how your credits are allocated to employments yourself in MyAccount. This would then be available to your employer when they retrieve RPNs ahead of their next payroll run. Saves a phonecall!

Can also cease that old employment there so this doesnt crop up again

    Thanks a mill.

Will I have to wait until next year to get the overpayment in tax back would you know?

Once your employer has the correct credits and you're on the 'cumulative basis' it will be refunded in the next pay run.

I am in the exact same situation at the moment. I registered my new employment details on myaccount on revenue.ie and I have spoke to payroll in my new employment. They received something from revenue however revenue have gave me no tax credits so I am still being taxed half of my wage. I have tried to contact revenue at least 4 times each day and I keep getting the automated "Our lines are busy, please ring back". I have also sent them a query on myaccount and have yet to receive a reply. I am this close to actually finding the location of the PAYE section and calling in in person.

All PAYE areas are flat out at the moment. Can you login to your online account and see that your job is registered and the credits/rate and are applied to it? If they are then it's something on your employers side. Quite a few employers were putting people on emergency tax when they didn't need to because they didn't use the information provided by Revenue.

This isn't really a Revenue issue, in that they are only using data that your employer provided with the List of Employees last October, and failing that, they fell back to the old P2C details.

The creation and selection of the correct Employment for employees is wholly with the Employer to choose. The employee just needs to make sure that their tax credits are correct and assigned to the right company.

We've found MyAccount to be the best way for an employee to make sure that their Employments and credits/rates are correctly applied.

A common problem is that an employer may have multiple RPN's for you with multiple employments. I would suggest going into MyAccount and finding your Employment. You can do this in myAccount > Manage your tax 2019. In the box labelled Jobs and Pensions will be your current employments.

Find the one that has your employer, and View it. There is a field in there called EmploymentID, take a note of it. Make sure that your credits are assigned to that role.

Then go to your employer and tell them exactly which EmploymentID they should be using to get your tax credits and Rates.
Hopefully you go onto Cumulative and recover the tax in the next payslip.

    Best of luck
    Mark
