I have given up using Eir webmail as my main email account due to its on-going unreliability. Today I wanted to look back over old mails and of course it's unavailable again.

It's beyond a joke that you are unable to keep an email system running...
Have you considered sending someone on a server maintenance course?

Best advice I can give you if a business then I assume you have a website (?) so just set up a redirect to a proper business email - will look better from a customer perspective to boot
If you don't have a website then buy one and look at email only hosting for it - cheap as chips for a reliable service you control
Eir email is a dinosaur from the early days of early widespread email.
