Thanks I'll look into all the above! I'd think of Wicklow as a mountain area over sea.... Mountain biking sounds good.

Killegar stables do a horse riding trek that is suitable for beginners.

You could also go to HillTop Shooting Club

    Sea -
    • Clogga strand – right down by the wexford border – never crowded.
    • Brittas bay of course!
    • Wicklow town is a nice place to visit with an award winning bookshop to browse in.
    • The coastal walk to wicklow head from the car park at Dunbar Glen is especially beautiful.
    • Bray head walks.

    Walks –
    • Glendalough: any walk from the visitors car park.
    • Devils glen.
    • Vale of Clara.
    • Vartry reservoir circuit (there is a new extended circuit which looks very interesting).
    • Blessington lakes.

    Places of interest –
    • Russbourugh house and gardens .
    • Mount usher gardens.
    • Kilmacurragh arbetorium.
    • Kilruddery house and gardens (house tours in summer only).
    • Powerscourt house and gardens.
    • Rathgall ringfort.

    Great drives –
    • Bohernabreena-Britas-Blessington-Hollywood and the wicklow gap.
    • Featherbeds-glencree-sally gap-lough tay-roundwood-annamoe-glendalough.
    • Arklow-woodenbridge-aughrim-Tinahely-Aghlow church-Baltinglas-Donard-Dunlavin.

And just off the top of my head…

I thought that was closed off... has it been re-opened?

Where's a good spot for parking?
The village and walk down, or on the Newtownmountkennedy road.

Well - officially the coastal walk is closed off, but it is still easily accessible for walking (I walked it just last Sunday) - left to Wicklow Co.C management it would most likely never reopen, like the stretch from wicklow town to Dunbar Glen.

It really is a beautiful short walk - best done on a sunny, calm late evening.

Good description of the walk here from 2 years ago but still relevent today: https://www.independent.ie/regionals/wicklowpeople/localnotes/spectacular-cliff-walk-on-towns-doorstep-34521372.html

As for Vartry - I usually park near the two pubs on roundwood main street (plenty of free parking here) and walk down to the lake.
