Zones & Vertical Rads

Hi, looking for some advice/help on a matter.

We have two zones in the house - heat and water.
We've built a new extension, got some new rads in, however they come on when we turn on water on, so to me they are on the wrong zone.

We've been told that because two are vertical rads they need to be fed directly from boiler, otherwise they won't heat properly. Also something to do with the size of the pipes that feed the other rads, they're too small, if used it wont heat the rads.

There is also another small rad on the same line so we have three rads that come on with water. Which means that we need to turn off rads every time we want to heat just water.

I don't have plumbing knowledge but I'm a bit sceptical about what we are being told so just looking for advice and whether I should challenge this?

    Thanks in advance

Put a zone valve on the pipe feeding the new extension and add an additional zone to the system. You can also then have a separate thermostat just to control this new zone. You can power this zone, from an existing zone on the time clock.
