    Hi All,

I have been provisionally assigned to work.in the revenue commissioners office. I spoke with them today and they are pushing me towards going to their IT department as I do have experience in IT. Does anyone have any more information working with IT for revenue. Is this more or less a level 1 help desk job IE:Answering phone calls and providing remote IT assistance to other revenue employees. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Chris

It depends on your skill set.
They are having trouble getting their own IT dev staff, hence about half of their IT dev staff are outside contractors.
Have you asked for a job spec?
What part of the country are you?

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. My skill set would be purely basic troubleshooting as I was a level 1 Helpdesk agent for about 18 months. Very basic troubleshooting and providing remote assistance over the phone to people. I spoke with them and they they were hoping to for me to join the IT dept but nothing has been confirmed yet so there wasnt really any discussion regarding job spec but was wondering what there internal IT department was focused on and what my general day to day would be. Im sure when they give me my start date I will get more information on the role.

    Regards,
    Chris

Different functions are in different parts of the country, which is why Calahonda52 asked the question. If it is internal helpdesk then your are talking about standard PC/MS Office type of support. Revenue is a much broader organisation than most people think, so the possibilities are far and wide. Apart from experience you don't say what your qualifications are?

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

    +1
    exactly
They conceive, design, code up and run some very sophisticated risk analysis software and have also been big supporters of XBRL as a FIN reporting package.

    Hi,

So the role I was in required no experience starting and we were trained internally. I have no qualifications in IT. Basic browser troubleshooting and MS support is what i was trained in doing but was very specific to the company I worked for.We would be suport also for unlocking peoples accounts and resetting passwords. There was lots off issues that we could not fully help with that would be escalated to a level 2 team to resolve. This is why Im concerned about being assigned to an IT role there as apart from basic MS and network troubleshooting I dont think I would be very suited to the role. I applied through the 2017 clerical officer campaign so was not really expecting to be put in IT. I am gunna be based in Dublin. Advised I will be either on George's street or an office beside Heuston station.

    Regards,
    Chris

Embrace the opportunity that this presents!
You will get trained up and if you are interested explore further studies in IT with their support.

You'll probably end up in a similar role for the beginning. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to ring/log a call with the help desk for relatively simple things as most admin rights etc are restricted on the PC's and laptop's we use. There an element of the IT Crowd about it however it will be good experience and unless you are coming in on some agency drive rather than direct recruitment, you will be a civil servant at either CO or EO level I'm presuming. As a civil servant you will have opertunities for sideways movement in the organisation or into other departments. You will also have promotion opertunities in the organisation and wider civil service. Good luck with it.
