Currently work a 5 day week and was going to speak to my boss in relation to wage increase soon. I was also of the mindset to not ask for a wage increase but to ask to go work a 4 day week (take Fridays off - there would be someone there to cover the work)on the same wages I am currently on and also to keep hold of the 21 days holidays I get per year. Has anyone done this or know if it would be worth asking for. Thanks

what kind of pay increase would you expect?

4days work for 5 days pay would seem to equate to quite a high increase

    25% increase on a day's work?

Also you'd not be entitled to 21 days leave- on a pro-rata basis- you'd loose the right to 4.25 days AL per annum.
Any public or other holiday entitlements would also be on an 80% entitlement.

It would be exceptionally generous to allow you keep your annual leave- but to do a 4 day week on the same pay- would be quite astounding.........

They could ask to work 10 hour days instead and work it up that way.

Never understood why offices etc.. didnt allow this, especially in financial services

I would have no problem working 9 to 6 if I thought I could at least stay on the salary I am currently on. I don't mind dropping to a 16 day annual leave instead of my current 21 days but its more that I would hate to drop my salary. this is all just something I am thinking of at the start of the new year.
