    Hi,

Looking to go travelling in November to find myself and what not.

Question is, i rent a room with a matey and pay around 430 a month, thing is if i go for the 6 weeks then obviously id be liable for the 6 weeks of rent while im away.

What would you do in this position?

I could move home as its not far but then id have to find a new abode.

    FirstWorldProblems i know..

Any thoughts be most appreciated my pedigree chums

Pay up, go travelling, come back, move on with life.
Or rent the room out for 6 weeks.

If it's in Dublin pay the rent if your happy where ya are. If your not happy and alternative accommodation is available then **** off and use the money for your 6 weeks of finding yourself.

The only thing you usually find while travelling is Genetial warts or some other scabby STD from sleeping with some munter German bird!

How important is the 700 odd euro and time to pack up, move, look for a new place, move again to you?

I've done something similar. Pay the rent and make it work. Finding a new gaff to live, putting all your stuff in storage, moving in somewhere else etc is an unbelievable hassle. And then you might end up moving in with nutcases or pains. If you have a decent houseshare you're lucky and come back to normality instead of a load of uncertainty and guff.

Do you rent your own room or share a room? If its the latter he's not going to want to have a stranger in his room but otherwise you could sublet. I would not give up the lease for six weeks rent either way.

If you can afford to pay the rent while your away then keep it. Probably what I would do if it was me

    I dunno.

    I can't decide either.

Pay the rent and have a place to come home to when you get back. Six weeks is not that long.

Do people actually find themselves travelling or just get pissed and ride anything that moves?

First they came for the socialists...

Will you be travelling with an adult who can assist you in case you encounter such life choices?

It’s 6 weeks really just a long holiday, surely it can’t be worth the hassle of moving out with all that entails just for a month and a half. Unless you can’t make the money work any other way just enjoy your holiday and be able to return to your own bed with no hassles when you get home.

I would suggest that you pay the 6 weeks rent for the following reasons:

If you move back in with your family and decided eventually that you want to move out again, you will have to undergo the whole movIng, deposit etc. process.

If you had to move in with someone new they could be difficult and not like your current housemate whom sounds like your current arrangement is working.

If you decide to not pay the rent you will have to move out before you go on holiday making it an unnecessary endeavour.

The only alternative would be to rent the room to someone else whilst you are gone for x amount of weeks. Is your house mate open to this?

I believe that it would just make more sense to have somewhere to return to after the holiday. The benefit of saving money is only short term versus a long term advantage of having your own place.

Enjoy your holiday and the best of luck with whichever decision you make.
