Change to a petrol car?.....

    I've recently switched cars with my wife and am now driving a 2011 1.6TDi Ford Focus saloon. The car my wife will now mainly be driving (with the kids) will be the 'main car' for longer trips at the weekend etc.

    As such, the Focus will be my daily runner for commuting to work and other short spins, with the occassional longer run. I've a daily commute of ~50km return, not city driving so a fairly contanst run (not too much stop/start). Majority of mileage will be on N and R roads, very little on the motorway bar the odd long spin. In a year this will probably add-up to about a max of 15,000km.

    So, I'm thinking I should probably change to a Petrol (or maybe Hybrid). Not considering Electric at this stage. Would this be a fair assessment given the driving/mileage involved, shouldn't really be driving a diesel?

    Current not so short list for a petrol replacement is: Golf, Polo, Hyundai i30, Seat Ibiza, Toyota Auris/Corolla..... Budget will be around 8k or thereabouts.

    Any helpful input welcome!

    Your mileage would indicate petrol, but from an economic point of you it would be best to simply keep the car you have.

    Why change? Your mileage won't be huge but the trips are long enough to make a diesel get properly warm.

    The thing is you already own the Focus. Changing a car is never free.

    Yea, to be honest, I may not change - that's why I wanted to get some opinion on if it would be considered 'ok' keeping the diesel Focus given my commute etc.

    Aboslutely the best thing economically would be to not change, and that may be the outcome - I should definitely give it a few weeks to see how I feel about it.

    It would be easier to not change if I liked the car more - I wasn't gone on it when we bought it, but the wife won out! :-) There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, hasn't had any issues in the 2 years we've had it and it only has 145k km on the clock. If it was a hatchback I'd probably find it easier to live with!
